Project: Capstone Project

For this project, I imagined the boy band One Direction was to make a comeback after exhibiting successful solo careers with a huge release to be expected among the fanbase that has been consistently dedicated to supporting the band members and waited these past eight years for their return. But with music streaming services accounting for 65% of total industry revenue, it’s uncertain whether a physical album would bode well. However, the rise of vintage vinyl and tangible collectibles suggests otherwise. Inspired by physical albums by K-pop artists, I proposed a packaging that held not only the CD but an exclusive album t-shirt to create an exciting unboxing experience.
Come Back Home is the title of this comeback album. Home, a theme within One Direction’s lyrics and the relationship with their fans, I centered the project around this idea. The main packaging, designed to look like an English townhouse, encases the CD that’s housed inside its own jacket that features the album title and a couch that welcomes guests inside on the front cover and a track list on the back cover. Underneath the CD sits folded the official album t-shirt that showcases the band’s logo on the front side of the shirt on the top left corner and a whimsical one-line illustration of the album title and townhouse consumes the back of the shirt.
