Katie Hall
I'm a Graphic Design student with an Associate's degree in Applied Art & Science who
is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree.
The words ‘create’ and ‘design’ has always sparked a sense of enthusiasm and excitement within me. From an early age, I have always had a creative characteristic with an intense passion for drawing and painting. My background in traditional art was purely self-taught during my childhood. However, I hadn’t known of Graphic Design until my early teenage years when my obsession with music took on a whole new meaning. I no longer wanted to just listen to the music but wanted to be a part of it all. From creating t-shirt graphics for concerts I attended to designing web-based graphics for social media promotion, I began seeking out ways to promote my favorite artists while also scratching my creative itch. In the Fall semester of 2016, I began studying Graphic Design as a vocational subject. Throughout my studies, I have gotten to know so much about music industry designers such as Stanley Mouse, Jamie Christopher Hewlett, and Andie Airfix. Their works have inspired me to develop my own skills and have given me insight as to how to establish a creative mindset.
My free time is typically spent keeping up with my favorite artists and the music industry as a whole. I love discovering design trends and experimenting with ways to include all I have learned in my own work. Throughout the summer, I keep my schedule full of concerts, and with my love for so many genres, it isn’t hard to keep the lineup full.
“There are three responses to a piece of design – yes, no, and WOW! Wow is the one to aim for.” - Milton Glaser. Graphic Design has the power to tell a story, visually stimulate, and set a mood all at the same time. As a passionate music lover, artist merchandise created within me a sense of belonging and connectivity. I aim to design music artist merchandise that emulates that same feeling. As a motivated self-starter, I seek all possible opportunities to help me advance my skills in Graphic Design and expand my knowledge in the music industry.
